Trinidad Cuba. Destination Overview

Trinidad Cuba. Destination Info by Captivating Cuba™A UNESCO heritage site known as Cuba’s Living Museum-City. One of the first Spanish settlements in Cuba surrounded by verdant mountains and the Caribbean Sea.

Nestled between the ocean and the mountains, Trinidad is Cuba’s best example of a colonial town, and it has been wonderfully restored with funding due to its UNESCO status. Trinidad, Cuba is a hot sleepy town with many narrow cobbled streets to wander.

Visit the bars in Trinidad to see the locals dancing salsa amongst themselves, not as entertainers.

For a great view of the town we recommend that you climb the bell tower of the Iglesia de San Francisco. The bell tower not only offers a fine view, but is also a landmark of the town. Trinidad has a few small museums that make a worthwhile visit. In particular we recommend the Museo Romantico where 18th century period furnishings are displayed, giving a sense of the wealth of Trinidad at this time. The Museo Historico Municipal also has a sample of pieces reflecting the history of Trinidad and again the watchtower offers fine views over Trinidad. At the Casa de Aldeman Ortiz you will find a range of local artworks and handicrafts on sale or as you wander the streets of the town you may find small stalls set up with local people selling handmade goods. Trinidad, Cuba is particularly known for its lace goods.

In the evening, Trinidad offers a small selection of lively venues to sample Cuban food, music and dancing. The Canchanchara bar is famous for both live music and its namesake cocktail. The Canchanchara cocktail is a blend of rum with honey and lime. The Casa de la Trova and Casa de la Musica also feature live music, dancing and typical Cuban fare.

We feature a couple of hotels in Trinidad town for those wishing to stay in walking distance of Trinidad’s attractions. The newest Trinidad hotel is the 5* Iberostar Grand Trinidad which is a small character boutique property. Additionally, set on a hill overlooking the town is the Las Cuevas hotel, a more simple property but it has the added advantage of a swimming pool.

Many people visiting the Trinidad area prefer to base themselves at the beach as Playa Ancon is just a few miles from the centre of Trinidad and easily accessible by taxi. The Trinidad hotels at Playa Ancon are simple All Inclusive properties set on the beach. The Hotel Brisas Trinidad Del Mar is a popular 3*+ property with a range of activities if you want to spend your day at the hotel. The Ancon is a simple Trinidad hotel, again set on the beach, with a range of entertainment for guests.

Many guests visiting the Trinidad area also visit the area of Topes de Collantes in the mountains set behind Trinidad. Topes de Collantes makes an ideal excursion that can be booked with our local representative. Set in the mountains is a beautiful tropical forest with a variety of beautiful plants, waterfalls and bathing pools.

Hands down my favourite town in Cuba. It’s got everything in one place. The historic town, the beach, and lots of trails to explore in the mountains. Highly recommended.
