The Gran Hotel Manzana, regarded as Havana’s first truly luxury hotel has recently opened with great anticipation and global attention. Operated by the luxury Swiss Kempinski chain, the hotel is ideally placed in a commanding position overlooking the Parque Central square in Old Havana.
Originally built between 1894 and 1917 and owned by a well-known Cuban sugar baron, the building was the first European style shopping arcade in Cuba, which in subsequent years was expanded to include a theatre, offices, and a local school after the Revolution. It has now been completely renovated and restored into a magnificent luxury landmark in Old Havana, oozing elegance and luxury and also boasting the first ever selection of designer boutiques in Cuba.
Full of opulent character, the Gran Hotel Manzana is just steps away from the Capitolio building and the ornate Great Theatre and the very heart of Old Havana lies around the hotel. With a strong contemporary design with subtle hints of Arabic luxury throughout, the hotel certainly provides a 5-star experience.
The lobby area on the second floor is a huge gallery of glamour in magenta, mustard, lavender and stone, with modern trappings. The nearby tiled Constante Bar, and the tobacco lounge have parquet flooring, huge humidors, and displays of bottles of rum, and you can be welcomed by Juan Jesus Machin, one of Cuba’s top cigar sommeliers.
