Time spent at the Santa Isabel is like time spent in your own small stately home. The hotel enjoys an excellent location so close to the hustle of Old Havana, but retains such a peaceful historic atmosphere as though time has stood still. We love the inner courtyard for that reason and when the sun gets too hot, we head here with our favourite book and relax in the calm with a Cuban coffee and Cuban pastries.
The stately Santa Isabel hotel overlooks the cobbled Plaza De Armas, Havana’s oldest square and was originally built as the residence of the Count of Santovenia who at the time was a leading member of the Cuban aristocracy.
The hotel continues to capture the true 19th Century regal atmosphere and the palace style building enjoys a peaceful open courtyard with a bubbling fountain, imposing limestone columns and an impressive marble staircase that leads guests to the rooms, which are spread over three floors. The peaceful lobby area with its crystal chandeliers and authentic antique furniture looks out across the cobbles of the peaceful Armas square, where nearby there is a great choice of cosy bars and restaurants to enjoy in the narrow historic lanes of Old Havana.
The Santa Isabel is a truly distinguished small hotel to enjoy and you can follow in the footsteps of a number of leading global figures who have chosen this hotel as their Havana residence.
