Havana seems like a place that froze in time, as if all clocks stopped at some point in the 1950s. And nothing reinforces that illusion like the hundreds of vintage cars cruising down the streets of Havana.
For travellers, it really feels like they are living scenes from a period movie, or transported back to a time when the ruling classes in Havana first clashed with a group of youngsters that would eventually bring about the Cuban Revolution of 1959.
One of the city’s most iconic symbols, the Chevy Impala, Ford T, and 1940’s Jaguar are inextricably linked to Havana’s landscape.
It’s not been easy, keeping these majestic beasts running for over 60 years. That’s why the Vintage American cars are not only a symbol of the city, but also of its people and culture. A rather loud testimony of the Cuban people inventiveness, resourcefulness, and sheer will to carry on against all odds.
