Fishing in Cuba

Fishing in Cuba

With amazing tropical weather, warm temperatures, amazing beaches and beautiful seascapes, Cuba is the perfect location for fishing, and it is available throughout the island. Fishing can be restricted, so it’s important that you speak toone of our Cuba experts who can give you the current advice.

Deep sea fishing in Varadero

Varadero offers over 20 kilometres of coast and is an idyllic location for deep sea fishing. Offering an exciting day out at sea, Varadero offers serious ‘go for it’ sport fishing. Return transfers from your hotel, fishing tackle, bait, and an board bar is offered and with a bit of Cuban luck on your side, you could be bringing home red snapper, blue marlin or barracuda.

Bone fishing in Cuba

Cuba has some of the best bone fishing in the world, and it is an activity that we are able to arrange in advance on a request basis in one or more of the following locations, subject to government approvals and local conditions. We would recommend talking to one of our Cuba experts so we can provide the latest information which does tend tochange over time.

  1. Zapata – Las Salinas
  2. Cayo Santa Maria
  3. Cayo Frances

Whilst pricing and availability is on a case by case, request basis generally speaking approximate prices are in region of £500 per day to hire a skiff that seats up to 4 passengers with a local guide at the front of the skiff.

Note that with the current and future changes in Cuba with regards to opening up to the USA, Zapata Las Salinas may in the future, not be possible to book for bone fishing as there is talk that it will be controlled by the government and used exclusively for the US market at very high prices.  For this reason, we would suggest that Cayo Santa Maria is an easier and more accessible destination for bone fishing.

It may be possible to book individual days fishing at Zapata or Cayo Santa Maria, however Cayo Frances which is more of a specialist destination for bone fishing can only be booked for visitors who intend to spend their entire holiday fishing and are willing to book a full package (usually around a week).

Where customers are looking for an individual seat on a skiff, rather than hiring one exclusively, this may not be possible to book until last minute as confirmation will depend on the amount of guests already pre-booked.

Note that for bone fishing in Cayo Frances, which is north of Camaguey via a causeway can be difficult to access physically. It is in a remote, unspoilt spot and is and barely touched by humans. Some years ago, the causeway was badly damaged in a hurricane and access (via a car) can be treacherous, is not for the faint hearted, and certainly not suitable for children, or those with any mobility difficulties.

Bone Fishing in Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo

Bone fishing in Cayo Coco can be arranged in Marina Marlin which is located close to Hotel Vigia. There is a specialised guide known to be the best guide for fishing in the area who can be booked locally.
